LEC Delegation- Headed by the Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Monie R. Captan attend meetings in Kampala,Uganda

The Chief Executive Officer of the Liberia Electricity Corporation, Hon. Monie Captan attended two meetings in Kampala, Uganda along with Hon, George Gontor (Deputy Minister for Energy, MME) and Mr. Emile Karnga (Sr. Manager, LEC – Mt. Coffee Hydro). The first meeting, held under the World Bank Energy Sector Management Assistance Program from July 8-9, 2023, focused on the Future Role of Hydropower in Sub-Saharan Africa. The second conference Africa 2023, Water Storage and Hydropower Development for Africa occurred from July 10-13, 2023.

CEO Captan addressed the opening session of the Africa 2023 Conference and presented the Government’s plan for the development of the hydropower potential of St. Paul River Basin, and in particular the development of the second hydropower plant of 150MW capacity, known as SP2. CEO Captan also informed the conference that the President of Liberia, Dr. George Manneh Weah had signed Executive Order 120 creating a Steering Committee for the promotion and rapid development of the SP2 Project.

The conference was attended by over 26 countries and brought together major actors in the hydropower sector, including major companies such as Artelia, Voith, Andritz, EDF France, HOI, Muhr- Germany, SMEC, Tractebel, Global Hydro Energy, among others.
