Liberia Electricity Corporation Embarks on World Bank Study Tour in Vietnam

The Liberia Electricity Corporation's Management Team, under the leadership of its Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Monie R. Captan, is participating in a World Bank Study Tour in Vietnam, alongside counterparts from Sierra Leone.
The objective of this landmark visit is to foster knowledge and experience exchange between the delegation members from both African countries and their Vietnamese counterparts. The initiative marks a collective effort to explore valuable insights, lessons learned, and best practices in the realm of electricity management, infrastructure development and dam construction. The study tour is poised to play a crucial role in the strategic preparation as Liberia gears up for the construction of a new dam upstream of the St. Paul River, with plans to augment its energy capacity by an additional 150MW.
The tour visit will focus on the issues surrounding power sector transformation and reform, Hydro planning, development and construction, energy access and utilities' operation as well as efficiency. The parties will share their practical experience in the preparation and implementation of the World Bank's Financed Project.
Vietnam's successful development of the power sector is highly relevant for Liberia, Sierra Leone, and otherWest  African Countries especially in utility governance and hydropower development, as well as in the Government's policies and objectives of scaling up renewable power generation and the role of the private sector.
The Liberian government delegation, representing the Office of the President, Liberia Electricity Corporation, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission,  Ministry of Mines and Energy, and the Environmental Protection Agency, will actively participate in this knowledge exchange. The Study Tour is scheduled to run from December 11th to 19th, 2023.
