𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐒𝐚, πƒπžπœπžπ¦π›πžπ« 𝟐, πŸπŸŽπŸπŸ’ – The Board of Directors of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has formally welcomed a newly appointed Interim Management Team, ushering in a fresh chapter for the national power utility. The team, appointed by President Joseph Boakai, was officially received at LEC’s Waterside headquarters.
Cllr. Emmanuel A. Tulay, Sr., Chairman of the LEC Board of Directors, led the proceedings, commissioning the team to assume their respective roles and begin work immediately. The Interim Management Team, comprised of seasoned professionals with extensive expertise, has been tasked with addressing key challenges and driving reforms to advance Liberia’s electricity sector.

  1. Engr. Thomas Z. Gonkerwon – Managing Director

Currently attending the 19th General Assembly of the West African Power Pool (WAPP) in Abidjan, CΓ΄te d'Ivoire, Engr. Gonkerwon is a highly respected Electrical Engineer and Energy Expert with over 30 years of experience. Known for his technical and strategic leadership, he has played a key role in shaping Liberia's power infrastructure. As the former Executive Director for Transmission and Distribution at LEC, he oversaw the management of the corporation's transmission and distribution assets. He has excelled in a variety of roles, including Substation Engineer, Manager of Transmission and Distribution, Electrical Superintendent, Deputy Managing Director for Operations, Facilities Manager, Consultant, and Advisor. His professional journey spans public institutions, private enterprises, and diplomatic missions, Β has designed, constructed, Maintained, and Operated, many Electrical Systems including Generation, Transmission & Distribution substations, and Lines. He obtained many awards including β€˜Mission Honour’ U S Embassy Monrovia. as well as Certificates from the National Foreign Service Institute-US States Department. Engr. Gonkerwon holds a degree in Electrical Engineering and has pursued advanced certifications in Project Planning and Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Procurement.

  1. Eric Augustine B. Fredericks – Deputy Managing Director for Administration

Mr. Eric Augustine B. Fredericks brings a wealth of administrative expertise and leadership to ensure seamless organizational management at LEC. With dual master’s degrees in public administration and Banking & Finance, as well as a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, he combines technical insight with exceptional administrative acumen. A seasoned professional, Mr. Fredericks has held prestigious roles, including Chief Executive Officer, National Coordinator, and Lecturer at Liberia’s premier institution. His proven track record in strategic management, people development, and operational excellence positions him to drive productivity, enhance organizational performance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement at LEC. With his exceptional leadership, Mr. Fredericks is poised to bring innovative solutions to LEC's administrative and operational challenges

  1. Engr. Dele I. Shobayo – Deputy Managing Director for Technical Services

Engr. Dele I. Shobayo is a technical expert in energy policy and planning with a strong background in both national and sub-regional energy systems. He holds a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Electrical Machines and Power Systems from the Federal University in Abeokuta, Nigeria. Engr. Shobayo previously served as Senior Energy Advisor at the Ministry of Mines and Energy and as Energy Project Technical Manager at the Millennium Challenge Account-Liberia, overseeing key projects under the $257 million Liberia Compact with the U.S. Government. As Executive Director at LEC, he led initiatives in power system planning, engineering, network design, and major connections, contributing significantly to the corporation’s growth and efficiency.

  1. Engr. Emile Karnga – Deputy Managing Director for Operations

Engr. Karnga is a skilled professional tasked with optimizing operational efficiency at LEC. Previously, he served as Senior Manager for Generation at the Mount Coffee Hydro Power Plant (MCHPP), overseeing strategic planning, safe operations, maintenance, and fiscal sustainability.Β He holds an Associate of Arts degree in Electronics Engineering, and a BSc in Electronics Engineering. Engr. Karnga has also completed specialized training in hydropower operation and maintenance at Kafue Gorge Regional Training Center in Zambia and Voith Training Center in Germany.

These appointments come at a pivotal time as LEC intensifies efforts to deliver stable, reliable, and affordable electricity across Liberia. The expertise and leadership of this Interim Management Team are expected to drive the corporation toward achieving its critical objectives.
