‘’LEC Assures the Public of Ongoing Efforts to Improve Power Supply’
DECEMBER 31, 2024: The Interim Management Team of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) extends its deepest gratitude and festive greetings to His Excellency, Joseph Nyumah Boakai, President of the Republic of Liberia, for the distinguished honor of being entrusted with the stewardship of the corporation's interim leadership. This preferment marks a pivotal step in enhancing the corporation to its foundational organic structure, while endeavoring to improve the standards of service delivery to our valued customers and the public.
In the interim, the management has initiated a comprehensive review of the corporation’s technical, operational, and administrative processes, with an emphasis on enhancing efficiency and optimizing quality performance. As part of these ongoing assessments, our teams are conducting careful technical inspections on our electrical infrastructure/network. While some customers may have experienced service interruptions in their areas, we assure you that our teams are working assiduously to implement the necessary technical adjustments for quality assurance. These measures are in preparation for the dry season and are designed to ‘reduce’ power outages. As part of the operational assessment, management will place heightened focus to address and rigorously crack down on power theft, with the objective of strengthening revenue protection. This strategic action is vital to safeguarding the corporation’s financial stability, thereby enabling the execution of further initiatives aimed at expanding electricity access to our populace.
To foster comprehensive and effective communication with our valued customers and the public, LEC has developed a more robust and integrated communication strategy. This plan will guarantee timely and efficient updates on power management schedules, ensuring that everyone remains well-informed about the corporation's initiatives and developments.
Furthermore, the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between COTE D'IVOIRE ENERGIES (CI-ENERGIES), COMPAGNIE IVOIRIENNE D'ELECTRICITE (CIE), and LEC, which ensures the annual supply of 25 megawatts of electricity through the CLSG Transmission Line, is set to expire on today, December 31, 2024. This supply has been pivotal in complementing LEC's energy generation to meet national energy demands.
We are pleased to inform the public that management has successfully finalized a new PPA with our Ivorian counterparts for a 50MW energy supply, with provisions to procure additional energy beyond the agreed supply, categorized as Extra Energy, during the operating period. The execution of this agreement will officially commence upon a formal signing ceremony scheduled to take place later in January, 2025.
In anticipation of the dry season, we have prepared our thermal plant, which will be fully deployed to supplement the capacity of the Mount Coffee Hydropower Plant as water levels recede. This plan, in conjunction with the forthcoming PPA, will ensure a significant reduction in power outages during the dry season.
LEC remains committed to delivering improved services and thanks its valued customers for their patience and continued support. Merry Christmas and a Happy Prosperous New Year!
