The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) informs its valued customers and public that, as of June 1, 2018, the Corporation has ceased to offer and provide Flat Rate and Direct Supply to customers. Crews of the LEC have been ordered to refrain from placing customers on Flat-Rate and Direct Supply as of the date mentioned above.
The Flat-Rate and Direct Supply provisions were put in place as a temporary solution of providing electricity to customers who had paid for connections but who had not been connected and to those customers with damaged and stolen meters. It was also introduced to help reduce theft of electricity, which is negatively impacting the Corporation’s revenue.
The Corporation have now received a large consignment of meters and will shortly begin the process of replacing meters that have been damaged and that have been stolen, in addition to connecting, with meters, those customers who have paid for a connection. This process will remove entirely all existing Flat Rate and Direct Supply options currently in place and will regularize all customer connections as metered connections.
The public is advised not to do business with individuals offering to place them on Flat-Rate or Direct Supply, as this is against the Corporation’s policy. The LEC is encouraging members of the public to refuse such offer and report the matter to our offices, as a matter of urgency. Individuals caught in violation of this policy, will face the full vigour of the law.
The LEC would like to assure the public of its commitment to increasing access to affordable and reliable electricity to all parts of Liberia in a timely and orderly manner.
